....in a meeting, as if they will never stop talking about nonsense. What do you think about as a diversion so as to avoid pulling your eyeballs out?

I doodle on my paper. Or go to the bathroom, repeatedly. Or make grocery lists. Or write short disparaging notes to other people about the people who are droning on and on.

I like to take a # from one of the over heads or handouts were ooking at and facotr it. Yeah, I"m a big ol' geek.

I can also set my cell phone alarm w/o looking at it, I set it for 60 minutes from the start f the meeting and pretend i's and important call. (Someone paying us money.) I sneak out discreetly and then I'm free for a good 20 minutes.

Bad meetings are worse than bad dates.

I've been known to go to sleep...and snore...and drool. Not the most civil and polite thing to do, I admit. Also, I draw on whatever is available, or if the person seems like he might be a little more intelligent, I'll wait till he's looking my way and check my watch. Taking it off and shaking it, though could be considered rude.

Go on a little mental vacation - not to be confused with a nap, of course. In a one-to-one situation, it's easier to sum up their thoughts and move on, but it's difficult to do that in a group without looking rude/bored/etc. When that happens to me, I plan my weekend, what I'm going to make for dinner, etc ... just be sure to stay focused enough that if they ask you something, you actually hear them.

Best Regards,
Holly

If I'm far enough away from the speaker, I look like I'm taking notes, but usually I'm doodling. I'll also use the time to make grocery, to-do, and various lists. Short of faking an appendicitis attack, there's not much else you can do.

Pretend to take notes but draft a letter to a loved one instead.

Put one of your hands over your eyes and pretend to concentrate, but close your eyes for 140 winks.

Do a DIY manicure.

If I'm getting paid by the hour for being at the meeting, I hope they will continue as long as they please, while I enjoy a pleasant daydream about how I'm not actually doing any work.

I interrupt. I will summarize their comment, thank them for their input and suggest we move on.
