The reason that you are feeling shocks is because it is dangeous to take St Johns Wort within 1 week of taking Effexor. It can cause a syndrome called Serotonin Syndrome. Serotonin constricts your viens it is secreted by the small intestine and absorbed by blood platelets and circulated in the blood. When the amount of serotonin is either decreased or increased it will result in an adverse reaction to your body. You need to discuss with your doctor that you stopped effexor cold turkey-which should not have been done-and that you are now taking St johns wort-which should not have been done so quickly after stopping the effexor.

I took Effexor XR for 2 years and quit twice. You probably shouldn't quit cold turkey but I did both times. The only problems I had was that for like 2 or 3 days after stopping I would get dizzy every now and then. After about 3 days I had no other symptoms.

Absolutely not! You will crash really hard! You have to wean yourself off of them. Effexor is most commonly prescribed for depression. If you try to go cold turkey, you will have increased depression and thoughts of suicide. See the doc who prescribed them and talk to him/her about weaning you off them. You will probably be met with some resistance.

If the doc is not willing to help you, then do it your self gradually lowering you dose every two to three weeks. If you still need help, find a diffrent doc.

NO!

I was on just 150 and took myself down over the course of a month. I did okay, but after I was off my world started crumbling. I was a sobbing mess. Six months later I was still falling apart.

Do not do this without a doctor helping you. I learned the hard way. It cost me a lot of pain, money, and my job.

It can be dangerous to quit those types of drugs cold-turkey. Call your doctor and ask them to recommend a schedule for you to follow to wean yourself off the medication.

NO! You need to gradually lower your dose and supplement it with something like zoloft. Your doctor can explain to you the reasons why to do it this way.
