you can legally spar in the professional ranks at any age as long as u can handle it or as long as someone will take the risk in their gym. In amateur boxing the age limits are age 8yrs to 32 yrs. check USABoxing website. Any one in any gym that allows u to spar unprofessionally at age 36 could be repremanded by USA Boxing if word got back to them. USA boxing works to protect amateurs in the country, not endanger them. Amateur coaches should monitor what goes on in their gym. Also, overmatching boxers is cautioned against--sparring a 132 pound boxer with a heavyweight boxer (believe it or not, I've seen amateur coaches allow this in their gym--even with a professional heavyweight and an amateur 132 lb boxer). I went off and threatened to call Colorado Springs to tell USA Boxing. There are amateurs and professionals that die in the ring because of unskilled and unlearned coaches and greedy, uncaring coaches. Most casualties of pro boxing are from injuries that occur in the gym, then go to the ring. The same for amateur boxers. Dont put yourself at risk--but I guess someone has to be a punching bag for someone else to make it to the top. Boxers should spar and workout with like experienced boxers or boxers that are slightly more experienced than them. Simply so the boxer can learn. The success of a boxer largeley depends on the caring mentality of his or her coach.
