Learn the basics of photography and you'll be much happier with your end results. You'll have "photos" instead of just "snapshots!" :) Good photography books can be found at used bookstores for $5 or so and you can pretty much use the information from a book about 35mm photography on any camera whether it be film or digital. I love when the basics never change! What kind of digital camera do you have?

The best part about digital camera is that you can experiment with it without costing you anything. When I first try digital photography, I built a setup (with toys, boxes, and plastic flowers) and took pictures with various setting and ligthing conditions. I also use it to understand the flash range and focus distance. Once I learned the limitation of my camera, I was able to produce usable pictures 99% of the time. It is great!

Most digital camera flashes suck. They blow out pictures and turn eyes bright white. So if at all possible, get one that will let you shoot in natural light without excessively long exposure times (the average human cannot hold a camera still, or arrest movement in a subject, unless the shutter speed is 1/50th of a second or shorter -- 1/15 or 1/30 won't get it). Lighting is a continuing problem with digital cams.

I love my digital camera! The best thing about it is that you can delete your pictures if you don't like them.

You can experiment with light and dark just like a normal camera. Just have fun with it, and you will learn more as you get used to it.

Good Luck!
