Never

I started when my son turned 4 because he was going into preschool and I knew they didn't give naps so I wanted to prepare him for it. He did really well. He is 5 now and he still doesn't take naps but we make him have a down time on the couch and watch tv for like a 1/2 hour in the early afternoon. Sometimes he will nap and sometimes he won't. It makes for a better day though when we have him do quite time.

Usually children fade them out between the ages of 3 and 4 years old, but some fade them much sooner. It really just depends on the needs of your child. If they can't seem to fall asleep at night after a nap during the day, it may be time to fade it out. On the other hand, if your child seems tired and cranky when there is no nap, you may want to include at least a short "resting" period during the afternoon, where they can either sleep for an hour (no more, or they won't go to bed) or lay down and look at books quietly for a while.

There is no definate age when you should stop having naps. Naps are good for all people at any age. I am 43 and still nap in the afternoon. It helps me to refresh my brain, and get a ahead start on the rest of the day

Usually they stop taking naps between the ages of 4 and 6. But some children continue to need their naps later to function. My 6 year old sometimes still needs a nap, heck sometimes I still need a nap.

I'd LOVE to be able to nap! I just never have the chance during the week! It's an individual basis thing....some kids need a nap every afternoon - others don't. For those who don't, if they are 5 or younger, I would at least recommend an hour of "quiet time" where they sit down and look at books or color or just lay down & listen to some soothing music (classical, light jazz, etc)

Usually children of different ages will stop taking naps on their own. When children start going to school naps are pretty much out. My daughter stopped taking naps at 6. But that doesn't mean on the weekends I don't walk into her room (she is 9 now) and find her conked out to the world. It just depends on them.

at about 4 years old they tend to stop needing them, but some need them past this age. You just have to assess each child differently depending on their needs. If you see that the child didn't nap and is incredibly crabby at 6 or 7 pm, this could indicate a nap is still necesary. If the child is not able to nap, for whatever reason, then have him/her go to bed half an hour to one hour earlier so that the child gets the amount of sleep his/her body requires.

I'm 26 and I take an hour nap every day, before working the 2nd shift. I think naps are great for the body!

I agree with almost everyone else in here, but a from what i gather , whenever they decide to stop. Heck, I am a mother of three, and you better believe i still nap. Sometimes, at those long trains, or long red-lights. And I have even caught myself napping while waiting in lines at the bank. So i think whenever you decide, or when they are old enough to decide.

I don't think there is an age.. All people take naps. But a routine nap, I would say 5, or whenever they start Kindergarten.
