I've been breeding cockatiels for several years. :-) Both male and female cockatiels incubate the eggs and feed the chicks. If one parents dies the remaining parent can take over, but it's best if the two stay in the cage. Cockatiels are much like humans. They will choose one mate and stay with them for their entire lives. Expect your male to stick around for a long time!
At a minimum, cockatiels should be a year old before you breed them. If the hen is too young she won't know what to do because her instincts haven't had time to kick in, and she could die from egg binding. Egg binding is when the egg gets stuck in the uterus and the hen can't lay it. Most breeders wait for their birds to be 1 and a half to two years old. The older the better in some cases. Male can breed as young as 9 months, but it's not recommended due to their immaturity.
Cockatiels often lay small clutches if it is their first time. My founding breeding pair laid about 4 eggs but only 2 hatched the first few times. The largest clutch I've had was six eggs and four babies hatched. I suspect I'll be getting more from that breeding pair! If you can, pair up a young female with an older male who's bred. That way the hen can learn from the male and if the hen does anything wrong the male can usually fix it on his end.
I'll post two web sites that have really helped me, plus one that will help you out with some basic breeding information.
Good luck! Baby cockatiels are hard work but super cute!

Hens need to be at least 1 yr old. Earlier is possible but there is a higher risk of egg binding or death of the chicks because the hen is too immature to feed her family. Males must share a cage before, during and after the eggs hatch. Each egg is fertilized seperately. Males are needed to feed the hens while they incubate. Males are then needed to feed the hen and her chicks while they are growing up. Males are responsible for weaning the babies to seed diets. He will teach them to fly and perch and groom themselves.
Before you get a female, make sure you have a seperate cage for her as they can't go directly together for several weeks if not months. After introduction, you can try short periods of time together in one neutral cage, but return them to their own cages mainly. It might take months before the hen accepts the male.
Good Luck

Yes they can share the cage.
When breeding they both sit on the eggs.
1 during the day the other during the night.

it could be his fantasy is in basic terms MFM and he has no genuine interest in a FMF. yet you've ask him not us. yet on yet another be conscious, you may want to be prepared for it. even although he would not in any respect want a FMF the door must be open for it to take position. we've prevalent many couples that in basic terms play FMF because the husband has subject matters with different men and his spouse, or perhaps although their spouse is bi and prefer it too, finally they commence to experience like they are getting the fast end of the stick because nicely, they are bi and they might like yet another guy be contained in the blend each and every now and then. They finally stop swinging because hubby's insecurities and subsequently jealousy make it no interesting. so that you do might want to be prepared that finally he would ask for it, and considering that you've yours he must be able to get his. Swinging is the total equalizer in a relationship. If one or the different of you isn't gentle with this than you 2, as a pair, at the instantaneous are not waiting to stumble on sexual fantasies that contain others than in basic terms you 2. provide it more effective time, communicate and communicate and communicate about it till you're gentle, or in basic terms save it between you 2. In swinging, the couple is continually the biggest component... not the exterior sex. After examining lots of the different responses i visit confirm you're in basic terms getting critiques the following and not in any respect any genuine suggestion. And from own adventure, those with the most critiques in a lot of situations have the fewest information to base them on. For some straightforward, open, and purpose guidance about threesomes and swinging please verify-out The Swingers Board communicate board. There you'll hear (for loose) from those wondering about swinging (like you), those which have in basic terms began, and veteran swingers alike.

mostly cockatails have to be alone to mate, and males still have to be with the females while she nests.
