Put your mouth around the broken earphone and blow and suck into it. Always works for me.

One of two possibilities. The jack has gone bad or the wiring in the bad ear is bad.

To test either option, try wiggling the wire at the jack and at the bad ear. See if the sound briefly shows up or you hear crackling. Otherwise it's a tough fix without know the problem. You can replace the jack by getting a new one from Radio Shack and soldering it on.

Fixing the ear side depends on the type of headphone.

wiggle the plug side and the defective headphone side, while you have it plugged into a sound source. if ya hear a crackle on either one fix the effected portion
use a replacement or the plug from the head phone by removing it from the plastic casing and re solder the wires, hot glue the plug to make sure it is secure and sealed.if it is the head phone make sure it is broke inside the enclosure . if it is broke mid way up the wire cut the effected portion and re solder it to the speaker.if you happen to have a set that has two wires on it going into each from a single cord that is split in the center;then make sure each is equal length. if it is a big set and is set up with all the wires going into one side and you happen to see broken wires or detect them with a continuity meter, then replace or re solder them. all of this may be in vain if your head phones are a pair of cheap $2 ones that are easy to replace . and buying a replacement plug is OK if you have a good set of high-fi headphones.but not if ya got a cheap pair. best of luck if this helps

It's probably a bad connection, either at the phones themselves or at the plug.

You can replace the plug, but to get inside the ear pieces you will probably have to break them.

open the non-working part and try to re-connect the wires or the headphone jack is broken

check the wires on the one that is broken
but its probably best just to get a new one
