I seriously disagree. If you have been around sport horses you know that they live and breath for competition. They love what they do or else they are unsuccessful. Many racing retirees do not enjoy life as pasture pets - they want a secondary occupation to keep busy.

As for injuries, if you are a horseman you know that injuries, illness and death occur in all horses. They colic, founder, cast themselves in stalls and break legs, get feet caught in fencing, hit by lightening in a paddock, run into trees, etc. etc. etc. Racehorses recieve more and better attention on a daily and emergency basis than most horses living in private homes.

I don't think it's horrible. Horse racing is something Thoroughbreds (among other breeds) are bred for. I have an ex-racehorse and he needs to run to expend his super stores of energy or he becomes dangerous. It's something he enjoys to do, as do most other racehorses. In Scotty's case, it's horrible if he doesn't run.

There are some trainers or riders that treat the horses poorly, but there are also organizations that do their best to prevent abuse from happening. There are also serious injuries that can occur from racing, but you can pick almost any Equine sport and say the same. Jumping can be extremely dangerous, but I notice you didn't mention it.

There is nothing horrible about horseracing it is a sport just like anything else. In any sport there is going to be injuries. Not only are the horses bred for it, it is in their hearts to run. I work with racehorses everyday and I love the sport and the horses. In fact racehorses are well cared for better than most pasture horses.

I totally agree with you. Look at Barbaro, the Kentucky Derby champion, who broke his legs in the race, and he was almost gonna die from that serious injury. From the latest news, he is recovering now. Horse racing is inhumane to the animals, and horrible gambling. People should stop racing horses.
