well, DVD-cam is the camcorder that let u record ur home movies directly to a mini disc.

Mini-DV-cam let u record the motiont picture to the Digital mini casette than latter u can tranfer them to ur compu or DVD to watch on ur TV.

Hard Drive-cam is let u record the video directly to the Hard drive that pre-install in the camcorder. u can also e-z ly tranfer the video to ur PC.

High-Def-cam is the latest tecnology that can let u make ur own video in HD so can get even more clear picture when u view them on HDTV.

Hi8 is a litle OUT OF DATE for today camcorder. it make a bit dificault to tranfer them to DVD

for under $300 i would say get the MiniDV-Cam. it take very good quality video.

and today most Digital camera can also record video too.

so do the math get the one that right 4 u.

The best camcorder for around $300 now is probably the Canon Elura 100.

The best one is DVD type . This is a digital camacoder.
any electronic equipment which is very very costely , need not to buy , because ,after one year or in less time, the system becomes old model . Hence SONY DIGITAL CAMACODER is best the solution
