There ARE other reasons, such as stress, but many people grind or clench their teeth because they do not meet exactly correctly. If your teeth do not meet correctly, they cause your jaw to shift slightly out of the joint to compensate for the mismatch in your bite. A bite appliance - when properly made - will eliminate the influence of the teeth over the position the bones take in the TMJ. It will allow your jaw to rest in the balanced (and comfortable) position where it belongs. After wearing an appliance for a while, your dentist might suggest some adjustments to your bite, slightly altering (grinding) the surfaces so that they no longer have any interferences to closing with your jaw in the proper position.

You may have tried a store-bought guard and they don't fit nearly as well as one made by your dentist.

Go to a dentist, and have them check some of your teeth are hitting the other teeth in the opposite jaw premature, the front teeth can not come down to the opposite jaw and when you are sleep the jaws still trying to come togather like the jaws should. The dental people will grind down the teeth that are hitting the opposite jaw premature, and it well correct the problem

Go to your dentist & have a hard nightguard made. I used to have a soft one & I could spit it out in my sleep, I have to snap the hard one off of my teeth, so I cannot take it out easily. There is also a new product out in which you mold a nightguard yourself, this would be much cheaper however I'm not sure how well they work!

What are you worried about? Usually, grinding is an indication of underlying anxiety. Try not to think about whatever that is and think of pleasant things right before going to sleep.

The mouth guard is it from a Dentist office? If it isn't then make
an appt. with them, letting them know that you grind your teeth
at night and they will make one for you to fit your mouth. I had
one made for me at my dentist. It works for me.

kinda a weird question. i'd suggest clear retainers that keep your teeth in place and cover your teeth to prevent grinding. good luck!

You didn't say if you got your mouthguard from a dentist. I would think if you got one properly fitted from a dentist, it would stay in as they are made specially to fit your mouth.

try to relax. i grind also, and clench my jaw. i can't afford a mouthguard yet but don't really see how i would be comfortable sleeping with it anyway.
