Because it draws doubt on the creationests age of the earth. (they say it is like 10,000 years old) so if you find dinosaurs bones or rocks or coral or things that are older than that they will have to change there beliefs. Their belives can't be wrong so it must be carbon dating that is wrong.

Carbon dating assumes a constant level of radioactive decay from Carbon 14 to Carbon 12. Wouldn't this mean a constant environment. We know that atmospheric pressure can alter aging. What do you think the atmospheric pressure was prior to the flood when there was a canopy of water above the earth? No idea, me neither. How about radioactive energy from the sun. Again no idea, me neither. How can you be so sure about something that is based on a theory that everything stays the same? I thought part of the evolutionary theory was that things are constantly changing. What about ice ages? Any effect on Carbon 14? Don't know? Why not? Also, the trees and animals were created completely mature and ready to be fruitful and multiply. How old is mature in a perfect world where a day to God is like a thousand years to us?

Well, here's the thing:

If you rely on science
to provide the answers
to life's big questions,
it requires a little effort on your part.

You have to read a little (OH NO!!!).

You have to study (STUDY, WHAT'S THAT?).

You have to think outside the box.
Try to make sense of things
based on deductive reasoning,
critical thinking, philosophical reflection,
physics, geometry, geology, history,
astronomy, and a veritable plethora
of other complex, oft times intimidating
thought patterns and processes.

I know. Sounds hard, doesn't it?
It's the road less traveled.
It's why people the best at thinking that way
represent about 1% of the population.

If, on the other hand, you're cool with following
the oversimplified and purposely ambiguous
mythological explanations of an ancient book
that not only recounts the deaths of thousands
at the hands/swords/spears of "God's chosen people"
but which also went on for centuries upon centuries
after it was haphazardly pasted together several times
by different wealthy clergymen with personal and political
agendas to become responsible for the deaths
of millions more (i.e. The Crusades, Chirstianization
of the West, etc.), then life is much simpler for you—
no thinking required. How blissful.

I think most Bible fundamentalists just choose blind faith
over rational thought out of a combination of misguided
ignorance and sheer laziness. And don't forget denial,
paranoia, hysteria and (my favorite) hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy is the Western Christian way of life.

Amen.

Once your Born-Again, it's Kinda Easy to Believe WHAT GOD Said.
Still causes Trouble in the Family though.
I wish all of this Dating the Earth Business was Over With.
When will the Scientist Really Discover a Way to DATE the AGE of the EARTH so that EVERYBODY can Believe WHAT GOD SAID.
(not Yelling, just Tired of this Debate).
Maybe I can come up with Some way to Date the Earth thats Easy to Understand and is Real.
Uuuhhhh, how do Atoms Work?
O.k., thats not a fair question.
Lets see, hhhmmmnnnn, dino bones? nope, sediment layers? nope, drill deep hole where Flood couldn't deposit Stuff? Hmmmnnnnn, Hey, anybody got a Drill I can Borrow?

I think carbon-dating is not a big deal to Creationists because it only works for things that are a few thousand years old.

Here's the real question, why is it only christians questioning carbon dating? Have you really looked into the variables involved? Guessing by carbon dating is like timing a horse race with a sundial. Who on earth decided that scientists should HAVE answers already? Science is an eternal search for knowledge, not a smug answer.

Because carbon dating does not square with a literal interpretation of the Bible, they do not want to hear it. They want to believe in what the Bible says regardless of scientific evidence to the contrary.

Carbon dating is accurate to about 60,000 years and would include the approxiamte 5,000 year age of the earth according to some religious (fanatic) theories.

If you had to keep defending yourself and what you believe, wouldn't you question carbon-dating?

Everyone questions the Bible. You believe in it as a spiritual book or as a poetic epic.

There's so much in science that hasn't been prove 100% of the way yet. It's not to say that they will never be able to date accurately.

Sadly, they are so misinformed about the truth that they wouldn't know it if it bit them in the gluteous. Look at the one who said that the carbon got all washed away by the flood! Yikes!

And how about time lines and incest? It is very selective ignorance on their part. But then again, how about them that think there is actually a lesser of two evils? Be careful about thinking about this type of thing to much. To try to rectify the matter is to fracture your personality.
