I walk with my left foot turned in slightly and have done since I was little and sometimes it's more noticable than others. My right foot isn't so bad but I have similar problems with both feet that sometimes my big toe sort of clicks out of place and becomes very painful and i can't walk on it, hence I then compansate by walking on the edge of my feet, making myself look like pigeon. The thing is that I don't know where the main problem because it also affects my back and I get a paindown the side of my leg. It's really hard to explain but I don't know whether a doctor can really do anything. Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so is there anything that I can do to stop walking like a pigeon!!

Thanks

I had this problem, you should have been given orthopedic shoes from small childhood. When I am very very tired, sometimes the left foot still toes in a bit. The main problem is probably in your hip joint, mine was. I suggest you see a traumatologist and explain the whole thing. They will probably take x-rays etc. and may give you physiotherapy-type exercises which may help. Do you have high arches? Shoes with arch supports may help if so.
Also if you are at all overweight, losing some will help as it takes the pressure off your hips, knees and ankles. Remember that our poor feet carry all our weight, all the time, and when your feet hurt everything hurts.

It seems like you could get some correct appliances for inside your shoes(like arches) that will correct the way you walk. I know if you continue to walk on the sides of your feet it can cause some back problems. Believe me I know. I ended up having therapy and had to use a cane. My problem started out different but it had to do with the feet.

It can be corrected by surgery. It could have been corrected when you were a baby without surgery.
