No - they are not the same. Sometimes angel food cake is used as the base of strawberry shortcake - like just putting fresh strawberries on a piece of angel food cake and putting whipped cream over it. That's an easy way to make a strawberry shortcake. But a bakery style shortcake is different. Angel food cake is a very light almost foamy cake - you can eat it plain, ice it or put whatever topping you want to on it. Strawberry shortcake is usually a heavier cake with strawberries and whipped cream between layers and over the whole cake.

Strawberry shortcake is a dessert, the Angel food cake is the cake they use for strawberry shortcake, but you can use different cake and it still be strawberry shortcake, let me guess she is sitting right there next to waiting to see what people say. well it is not the same thing.

You are right, it's not the same thing. Angel Food Cake is a white cake that has no icing or anything. You can put strawberries and syrup on it and make strawberry short cake if you want, but usually the cake in strawberry short cake is a yellow cake.

While you can serve strawberries and whipped cream on TOP of Angel food cake for what some people call strawberry short cake that is not the correct way to prepare this dessert.
The base is normally a sweet biscuit ( flour, baking powder , sugar, shortening , milk, eggs , salt,) baked, split in half or three, each layer covered with sweetened sliced fresh strawberries, and covered in whipped cream.

Strawberry shortcake is made from a pound cake, which is a much denser cake than angel food cake.

The majority of people who make Strawberry short cake including bakeries and restaurents use angle food cake. But others chose to use other types of cakes.
So you are both right depending on where you buy it from.
But I have to give my vote to your friend. Because she is more right to say it is because maybe she has only ever experienced it made with angel food cake. And also cause that's how I like it made

well actually they r not the same. angel food cake is much softer and lighter strawberry shortcake is very good but it makes a mess. angel food cake melts in your mouth sorta. have fun eating

angel cake is one of strawberry shortcakes berry best friends, but they are totally seperate people, on lives in a strawberry and the othe lives in a cake bakery shoppe!!i love those people!

No they are not. Strawberry short cake is made with strawberries (duh), sometimes glaze, icecream, whipped cream and the cake part. All kinds of sweet cakes can be used. Pound cake, white cake, some use biscuits and of course angel food cake.
I like angel food cake because it is so light and fluffy and doesn't get soggy fast. So good. It is also the healthier cake to use. All it is, is egg whites, flour, sugar and vanilla.
