My son who is five fell the other day and cut the inside of his cheek real bad. It was a gapping hole which bleed alot but stopped after about 10 mins. Now it is three almost four days later and it is still very swallon. it has also limited his movement on this area of his face. I am wondering if I should take him to the hospital. He is rinsing with salt water and also peroxide and water. It is hard to tell if he is hot due to a cold or possible infection of this area. he has had a cold and may only be warm because of this. What do you suggest?

I would go ahead and take him in. I have cut the inside of my mouth before and the swelling was slight and mostly internal. I took care of nieces and nephews for years. They were always getting hurt (not because I didn't watch them). There were a few cuts inside the cheek area and no swelling like that. It is hard to imagine that he has an infection, but you want to rule out any nerve damage. The poor little guy. I hope it all turns out OK.

A SWOLLEN CHEEK LIKE THIS IS THE RESULT OF TRAUMA. UNFORTUNATELY THE MOUTH HAS MANY BACTERIA AND THE CHANCE OF THESE CAUSING AN INFECTION IS LIKELY. HAVE A DENTIST SEE THE DAMAGE TO THE MOUTH SO MAKESURE DAMAGE HASN'T OCCURRED TO THE TEETH. IF HE'S HOT HE MAY NEEDETO BE PLACED ON ANTIBIOTICS.
