my sister is 18 years old and five months preg.. the big problem is she is using crack-cocaine. i can't get her to stop and it is out of my control... i have tried everything. if she continues to use they will take the baby, when it comes. how can i help her to stop and get her away from her much older boyfriend who got her into this mess anyway? also if she refuse to change and help this baby, and the CPS takes the baby away, what can i do to get custody?

by the way there is no one to "turn" her into... the child protective services can't do anything to protect the baby untill it is born

actually, if you'll do some research, you will find that the damage done to crack babies was found to be largely alcohol damage. does your sister also drink?

so, the point here is the damage to the fetus is not necessarily going to be great if she's 'just' on crack. i recommend looking into family law on the 'net for your specific state. i would also talk to cps in your county about what steps to take to get custody of the child at the hospital and talk to the hospital about whether a child will be tested for cocaine and if so, how you can work to get custody.

you can also constantly call the cops on them to report drunken driving and then hope the car gets searched and they get arrested.

consider carefully if you want to keep this child or if it would be better off far away from her.

Please turn her in. You may not believe this but by turning her in you are showing your love for her.
People on crack (or any drug for that matter) do not think rationally. The drug has taken over her body, mind, spirit. She cannot stop on her own. She has to be willing and for her to get to a place where she wants to stop she has to hit her bottom. Turning her into a rehab she can get the help she needs and deserves. Make it known (you may need a lawyer) that you intend to take care of the baby if there is a custody issue. Courts prefer children to placed in the care of an able relative provided they can provide (and show proof) of a stable, loving environment. You also have to be able to provide emotional and financial support for that child.
Good Luck and God Bless!

My niece's biological (mother) donor.. was and still is an addict.. she had my niece in the toilet 3 months premature, and the baby was only 2 pounds.. it took the grace of GOD and the people in a GREAT hospital in Missouri to get her to make it through the first 45 days of her life.. my niece was addicted to everything possible..

Depending on your age and stability.. you may be able to get custody of your upcoming niece or nephew. but you will have to have a background check don't by the state in which you live.. if you have any family that is stable and would take the baby in.. (just in case you cannot get the baby) please talk to them too..
OH.. and God Be with you and your family..
Please turn the sister in.. and once she gets help she might get her head back.. and get away from the man that got her into this!

I'm sorry but all you can do is help the baby out when it is born. There's no hope for your sister unless she seeks help on her own. Its going to be a long hard journey as the child will probably be born addicted to drugs. I'm so sorry such a trajic situation. Try to help but if you cant dont beat your self up about it,do what you can and ask for help. Good luck.

You MUST report her to the authorities. IF you are willing and able to care for the child, there is every liklihood that you can get custody. Talk to a CPS person right away. What she's doing to the child is abuse and there are likely to be long term consequences.

first I think that you should try to get her to think about going to support group or substance abuse treatment center. she may not be open to this idea so remind her that the drug that she is using can cause her baby to DIE, HAVE A PRETERM BIRTH, FUSSY BABY, BRAIN INJURY, LONG-TERM BEHAVIORAL,EMOTIONAL, AND LEARNING PROBLEMS. ALSO SLOW GROWTH AND HAVE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS AT BIRTH. If she wont listen I may be forced to advice you to call the police on her while she is using so something more can be done.

That's if the baby makes it into the world. The drugs could kill the baby or something. Please turn her in so she can get some help for her and the baby!!
