It's a great song, written and originally performed by Prince, but kind of a downer for a first dance song. She sings about how how her relationship ended and how she's trying to move on.

It would be fine to play as one of the slow songs at your wedding, but the first dance song....kind of out of place.

Are you SERIOUS?? That song is pretty scary for a wedding first dance. yeah , it says "nothing compares to you" which is sweet and all, but I think the message is ALL wrong...
Here are the lyrics:

It's been seven hours and fifteen days
Since you took your love away
I go out every night and sleep all day
Since you took your love away
Since you been gone I can do whatever I want
I can see whomever I choose
I can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant
But nothing ...
I said nothing can take away these blues,
'Cause nothing compares ...
Nothing compares to you

It's been so lonely without you here
Like a bird without a song
Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling
Tell me baby where did I go wrong?
I could put my arms around every boy I see
But they'd only remind me of you
went to the doctor guess what he told me
Guess what he told me?
He said, girl, you better have fun
No matter what you do
But he's a fool ...
'Cause nothing compares ...
Nothing compares to you ...

All the flowers that you planted, mama
In the back yard
All died when you went away
I know that living with you baby was sometimes hard
But I'm willing to give it another try
'Cause nothing compares ...
Nothing compares to you

I'm a wedding Dj. Personally, I'd say that you can do better than that. I'd have the Dj play that song once in the night, but it's a break up song. There are millions of songs to choose from - is that really what you want to remember for the rest of your life? Check out this website for some ideas.

I know you like it, but since it is a song about a breakup I think it would be a poor idea as your first-dance wedding song.

Maybe play it later on in the evening, as a regular slow dance song.

If I were you I'd look up the lyrics before you decide. I love that song, but I think it might be about a lover that left - went away. Maybe not the most appropriate for your wedding dance.

It's a great song but it's about a break up. I wouldn't use it for a wedding dance.

i know the song its 1 of my favourites.
doesnt matter what the words of the song say if the song has a personal theme to you and your hubby to be then go for it.
i played toni braxton unbreak my heart at my wedding. because it was a song that was specially to me and my hubby even though its a song about a couple breaking up.

I dont like it. Its a break up song.
Choose something happier.
Its your wedding day!
What was on the radio the time you met? I'm sure there was a nice love song. Our song was 'Thought I died and gone to heaven' by Bryan Adams.

I always thought it was a break up song.
It goes-
"It's been seven hours and fifteen days
Since you took your love away
I go out every night and sleep all day
Since you took your love away
Since you been gone I can do whatever I want
I can see whomever I choose
and
It's been so lonely without you here
Like a bird without a song
Nothing can stop these lonely tears from falling
