Most of the time when you enter the military with a 4 year degree, you are sent to OCS school, when you graduate from there you will be 2nd Lt. unless for some reason you were exceptional in OCS school, they may make you a 1st Lt. upon graduation of officier basic school.

DAC(Damn *** Civilian)-then you take the oath of office in the service branch you trained for. I graduated a DAC and immediately joined the Army, because I had been in ROTC.

It depends on what branch of the military you are referring to. In the navy I believe it is ensign.
