Ok, so my t.v. comes on. Digi cable is hooked up just fine. Sound comes through t.v. and surround perfectly. I can pull up the t.v. menu and scroll through that, in perfect color. Yet t.v. screen remains grey. No picture, nothing. Just a grey screen. T.v. has been used religiously without any major problems. Minor issues with sound not coming on, VERY infrequently did t.v. need to be turned on twice to get picture, which occured two or three times a long while back. Was bought in 2000, so it isn't real old. Does anybody know what might be the problem? I'd appreciate any feedback.

First you need to do some detective work. Check you cables for anything visibly damaged like a pinch from furniture or pin holes from pet teeth! Check the video cables and make sure they weren't hooked into audio jacks or vise versa. If you are getting a picture with the menu's, are you able to pick up UHF signals without anything hooked up?(UHF = ultra high frequency, The old days antenna reception!) I would then try hooking up a VCR directly to the TV with a coaxial line only. My guess would be you will find the problem to be cables.
TVs re simple in construction, tuner, amplifier, power supply, choke coil / picture tube. if your picture is black it is usually your pic tube, if it is lines or changes when it warms up it is probably the coil, if the sound is gone it is usually the amp, If the TV clicks when turned on and nothing else its likely the power supp, and lastly if the tuner is bad you get no stations but it will still work with outside tuners like vcr's (Chanel 3 or 4). I hope this helps, good luck.

Sounds like there is a problem with the tv converting or recieving the video signal. Check your cables, if that doesn't fix it, you know it's either the cable box or the tv. Check to make sure the hookups are in good shape, void some warranty's and open up the cable box and tv and make sure the hookups are in good shape. If none of that fixes it, something is pretty screwed up with the analog/digital converter or something else in there.

If you have a comcast motorola hd dvr box, the problem is a bug in it. when you watch a show you recorded and turn it off while watching it,, every time from now on to get a reg channel you have to goto the dvr section, choose a movie, start playing it, push stop and then exit to reg tuner. cured by unplugging the box for a minute then plugging it back in. but this deletes the
channel show menu. pick you poison.
