I would love to be able to continue some of these discussions by e-mail after the fact. But unfortunately I think there are far too many whackos on this thing, and my InBox would be full of garbage.

I don't make my e-mail address public because of a lesson I learned a long time ago. I sometimes frequent the yahoo message boards where people discuss news articles. I used to have my e-mail address in plain view but then I started getting hatemail and death threats. After that came the spam, such as variations of the nigerian money scam, links to porn sites and even a virus! (Thank goodness I didn't download it!) So I started using a different profile just for the message boards that kept my e-mail private. Likewise, when I started yahoo answers, I made my e-mail unavailable.

As far as I am concerned, my e-mail is as private as my telephone number. I only wish for it to be used by people I designate, such as friends, family members and any subscriptions I sign up for.

Once in a while, I think about allowing my e-mail to be made public--I think I might enjoy some of the debates I could have or the friends I might make. But then I remember some of the cruel e-mails I've received and think, "No, thank you. I'll pass."

1. A lot of people do not want emails from strangers.
2. Have you seen some of the stupid responses around, do you really want them in your mailbox
3. This site is regulated so technically abuse should not happen - you have to regulate your own emails, therefore are leaving yourself open to abuse.
4. They may not wish to get into discussion - in here you say a few words and get out - end of story.

I do that because it's not a good idea to have my email readily available for people to send things to.

The things I say tend to annoy some people. If I had my email available, I'd get almost nothing else but hate mail. Rather not have my email box cluttered with that.

Click on their avatar. Some parties have made their email available through the avatar. Caution though; there seems to be a character limit (1500?)to that 'email'.

Just because you think it is wrong doesn't mean you can email people to tell them (amazingly enough, people might have a different opinion, can you cope with that?)...this is not a chat room, it is a question and answer forum.

Some just don't think of it. Others are cowards. Some know their answers are ridiculous and they are afraid they'll be challenged and end up looking foolish.
