I had a tummy tuck six weeks ago and now I am able to return to the gym. I was wondering if I should do crunches to maintain my flat stomach? Can you build more muscles?

perhaps you should ask your doctor about this. I see no reason why you wouldn't continue to do those exercises..
keep your entire body in tip top shape.. and avoid more surgery later.

You still have muscles to be worked...they have just been shortened. You do need to work them.
