Hi Piscean- nope: I'm British/New Zealander. Both these countries have the same "problem": jobs that citizens don't want to do that are carried out by foreign-born nationals

And by increasing the minimum wage: where does this money come from? Tax? Higher prices? Would the average consumer/tax payer stomach this?

Siervocal : nope, it was a deliberate question. People are blaming Mexicans so that's why I addressed it like that.

Well, an effective wall is only wishful thinking. Nevertheless I wish I had the contract to build it. It would be like winning the lottery every day. Reason being, the Mexicans have the ability to tear up an anvil with a toothpick. The wall will be a piece of cake. So in addition to not working it will have to be rebuilt or repaired on a daily bases. Oh to be the lucky one who gets the contract.

Considering the fact that the people who sneak across the boarder are breaking the law. It would seem to me that Mexico should be held responsible. If I had the power to I would send every one of them back. In addition to that I would collect at least 100,000 per illegal from The Mexican Government. If any of them came back it would be $200,000 and back they go to Mexico. If there were very many repeat offenders I would cut all aid to Mexico. I would also stop all trade with Mexico. These actions would represent a lot of cash. We could take this money and pay people handsomely to do the jobs that no one wants to do. I would imagine that there would be a rush to apply for these jobs. And we would not have to raise the minimum wage. No inflation. No $25.00 tomatoes and so on. These workers would be the envy of most every one.

Yes I know that Europe has recruted Foreign Nationals to do jobs no one else wanted to do. Recrute is the key work. They were invited! Has this program been successful? With every major city approaching 25% Muslims who seem to be dead set on terrorism. I would say not very. Then again they were invited. That is not the case with illegal imigrants of any nationallity in this country.

Enforce penalties. To people like Ron. Where do you live? A big city nowhere near agriculture? I myself live in an agricultural area in Colorado. I have never had a mexican mow my lawn or clean my house. The few hotels I have visited have a mix of people from different cultures working there, so I feel that proves more than just illegals are willing to clean for a living, I myself did many nasty cleaning jobs for years but moved onto something different, they could do the same if they were legal. Their choice to cross the border illegally instead of going through the proper channels to be here legally is the reason they are 'kept down' in crap jobs. I know that becoming a citizen can be difficult and expensive, SO WHAT, it should be, get over it. One problem with some of the farms is that a good portion of the pay is housing. They make 8.50 to 9.00 an hour picking fruit and the cost of housing is included. But, if you don't need housing you aren't given more an hour to adjust for not using their free housing. So essentially you are paid more if you are illegal than if you are not. Show me the fairness in that pay scale! If employers truly fear prosecution and fines it could be a good start to ending the hiring of illegals.

If there is a job to be done, there is an American who will do it.

The reason that many Americans do not want to do the jobs that the illegals are doing is because the illegals are not being paid fairly. Pay fair wages, and there will be people willing to do the work.

The whole "jobs Americans won't do" is a myth and a false one. Consider this: You run a fast food restaurant and put up a sign that says, "Clerk wanted. $2.00/hr." You come to find that nobody applies for the job. However, there are plenty of people in China who work for less than $2.00/hr. Does this mean that you need to illegally import Chinese people to do the job that no American would do? Or perhaps should you pay a fair wage?

In theory, actual USA citizens would have to take those jobs even if paid the congress appointed minimum wage I doubt there will be many that will take them, and for the person who said that Latin Americans is a wrong term for defining people from a Latin origin is wrong since not all America belongs to the USA, they are part of the American continent yes but it doesn't mean they are the only ones with the right to call themselves Americans.

I have no problem with foreign born nationals, or even people with a work visa. It's the illegals I can't figure out. Either our companies are paying them far more than they're admitting to, or there is zero work anywhere in their own countries in which case they need to protest to their own governments about living conditions.

I say then the United States will be in a way that it has never been before I will not be happy with it. You know those jobs will go lacking because no one else will do them.I deeply think the wall is wrong we tore one down to put another what are people thinking. we are all equal we are gods people. I do not want the young children to grow up and to be taught to act in this way, because if we do we are teaching them the same as the UNITED STATES says we are against. I WANT THEM TO BE PROUD OF AMERICA. So god bless America and MEXICO and their people.

This is strictly not true. Americans would do these jobs if they were paid the minimum wage as set by the U.S. Congress.

If not, dead beat dads, non-violent criminals could make up the slack. This would help both them and society.

Who did the jobs before? The same type of people will do it after. They just might get paid a decent wage.
