Well, for starters, Ragu does suck, maybe try Prego - that's what I like - but I also spice that up.
I usually add garlic, salt, pepper, and a little bit of Italian Seasonings or Tuscan Herbs - you can find the blend in the spice aisle in your grocery department. Otherwise, the blend is oregano, thyme, marjoram, basil.
Topping the dish off with Parmesan cheese always makes it taste better

Instead of Ragu, try one of the better imported brands like Barilla. Also Contadina, Hunts and Paul Newman make a great sauce.
I always doctor mine with some italian sausage or frozen, premade meatballs. Just cook the sausage or meatballs right in the sauce for added flavor. Add a spalsh of red wine, a handful of grated Romano cheese, some fresh chopped parsley and you are all set.

Don't even bother with the jar crap....here is a simple recipe that takes about 20 minutes to mkae and it tastes a whole lot better!!
1 lb. ground meat
1 onion chopped
2 cloves minced garlic
2 tsp oregano
2tablespoons basil (fresh or dried)
1 tablespoon garlic salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 can crushed tomatoes
Brown the beef in a large skillet, add the onion and garlic once it is browned. Pour in the canned tomatoes and add the spices. Simmer for at least 15 minutes, longer if you have the time. It is simple and yummy. Enjoy!

Brown your hamburger with onion , garlic, and spices like oregano, pepper, or whatever you like. Add it to the sauce and also add 1 large can tomato sauce.
Better yet, use a good Italian sausage instead of the hamb meat.
Is there any reason you buy Ragu if you don't like it? Prego is pretty good, and the Hunt's brand canned or Del Monte brand canned are good too.

"Easy Spaghetti Sauce" - 3 1/2 cups
1 medium-size onion
1 carrot
1 stalk celery
2 cloves garlic
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 (28 oz.) can whole tomatoes in puree'
1 cup water
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground pepper
1/2 tsp. leaf basil; crumbled
1/2 tsp. leaf oregano; crumbled
Bay leaf
Chopped parsley (optional)
1) Coarsely chop onion. Coarsely chop carrot and celery together. Place onion in blender; finely chop. Scrape onion out of blender; set aside. Repeat with the garlic, then with the carrot and celery together.
2) Heat olive oil in large skillet; add onion and saute until softened but not brown, 4-5 minutes. Add garlic; saute 1 minute. Add carrot and celery; saute until softened, 1-2 minutes.
3) To skillet, add tomatoes with puree, water, salt, pepper, basil, oregano and bay leaf. Bring mixture to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes.
4) Place food mill or fine sieve over bowl. Pour tomato mixture into food mill and force through. If using sieve, force through with the back of a wooden spoon. Discard any solids left in the mill or sieve.
5) Return sauce to skillet. Simmer 10-15 minutes or until desired consistency. Remove bay leaf. Just before serving, stir in chopped parsley, if desired.
Now you can make your own, and I hope it's better than either Ragu or Prego.

In a skillet brown a pound of ground beef, one small chopped onion and three cloves of minced garlic. Once the meat is browned, drain liquid and add your Ragu. Then add a teaspoon each of italian seasoning, basil and oregano and one tablespoon each of sugar and parmesan cheese. The longer you let this simmer, the better it will taste.

Brown some ground beef, along with onions and green peppers. Drain off the fat and then add to sauce. Simmer for a few minutes. Thickens and spices it up a bit.
