The official average age is 3-5 years.
Naturally, lots of kids learn earlier.
Not that long ago, the official age was 2-4. However, most doctors and child specialists say forcing potty training in anyway can be unhealthy, and I'm pretty sure that's why the age changed.
My son was 4 1/2, but he's had quite a few developmental issues.

Each child is different. My children were born in Jan and Mar..so about this time of year i started telling them every daiper change, everytime I went potty..that when the weather got warm we were gonna wear big boy/girl pants and not wear a diaper anymore. By the time spring arrived they knew what to expect and we had no problems. I chose to train in spring cause there are less clothes to deal with in warmer weather. So mine were right at 2..but some may not be ready then. I was lucky and like to think the conversations we had leading up to it were helpful..

all i can tell you is from my experience with my daughter, she is almost 4 and is potty trained although she does have the odd accendent once in a blue moon.my friends son had no problem going pee on the potty around the age of 3 and a half but it took him awhile longer to going poo.i guess every child learns at their own pace..plus it helps if you read books to then about going potty, there are plenty of childrens books out there for that sort of thing, you can find them at any bookstore that has a childrens section...you could also have him decorate his around his potty you know make it his own privite place where he will look forward to going to.

Before they begin kindergarten. Every child is different, every child will learn differently, and at different paces. My eldest was fully PT at 2, my youngest is 3 now and still has some accidents.
The key is to not pressure them, they are little people with bladders the size of a grape, early warning systems don't always work on small plumbing.

They are ready to be potty trained when:
They can pull their pants up and down on their own.
They recognize when they are wet or dirty, and are uncomfortable in that.
They can sit for more than one minute without standing up 3 or 4 times lol.
They can verbally relate in some way the need to go.
If your kid can't do these things they aren't ready yet, no matter what age they are.
