Keep up with reminding him, if he truly cares/respects you he will.
Before we were married, my husband would 'joke' with me but they weren't funny jokes. Like he'd pick me up from work, I'd get in the car, I'd ask how is day was and he'd tell me something crazy like 'the bank called and is going to repossess my car'. I'd freak then he'd laugh and say, "I'm only kidding - aren't we blessed that we don't really have those things going on".
I would get enraged. I would remind him that life throws us enough 'hard balls' that I don't need to start guessing from him what's not and what's real.
EVERY TIME he'd do it, I would consistently remind him that he obviously doesn't respect me and must gets some sort of pleasure from this. I would make a point of showing him how upset I was when I saw it was 'another poor choice of joking". I started to tell him that I don't want to be with someone that upsets me and if that made sense to him. EVENTUALLY he realized that it's not funny and he had to choose.
He hasn't done it for years - thank god.
Remember... persistence overcomes resistance. Good luck!

He may be nervous talking, especially in groups of people. Some people get nervous and tend to ramble, making bad jokes or comments that seem inappropriate. If you think this is the problem, try to find ways to boost his confidence. If you think he likes the attention of being "that guy" who says terrible things and makes everyone cringe, then perhaps he is not the one for you after all.
Best Regards,
Holly

You might be able to catch him every now and then before he says something stupid, but you can't change him.

Ask him to think about things b4 he says something. And ask him to think about whether other people will think it's funny.

You have a choice to find a new boyfriend. Since you stick with him, that's one of his indiosyncracies so put up with it.
