What's the difference, if any, between answer and response?

Answer is a response to a question. It provides solution to the problem. At minimum, answer must relate to the question asked.

Response is just a reply to a question or statement. The response can be an answer, statement, or another question. Anything can be a response.

"Visit" is an act of physically moving over and going to someone else's location.

"Call on" can be simply request, ocasionally just wish, speak to, or actually go over. It doesn't have to accompany a physical move.

I believe an answer is primarily a reply to a question asked. A response can be that, or it can be a retort to another person's statement or a reaction to an event or another person's actions.

"Call on someone" is just an old-fashoined way of saying "visit someone".

Com esses termos estas criando uma grande confusao entre o ingles americano e o da inglaterra, como sabes o americano nao fala um ingles correcto igual aos dos ingleses. A gente aki n usamos "call on someone" somente "visit someone"

some say both, some say one . depends on region and country..
in general i'd say "response" sounds more formal, as does "call".
but im from usa and bi-coastal.

best to look this up for definative decison.

Response: To reply to a statement.

Visit someone: To go to that person
Call on someone: To have that person go to you.

"Answer" and "response" mean the same. "Response" is the more formal term.

"To visit" is less formal, "to pay a call on" is the more formal term.
