If you're having a music theme room... I'd say that color-wise you should stick to black and white (which puts you in mind of a piano keyboard, or sheet music), and let the other features of the room make the statement. I have found an article that encourages this idea... will add a link below.

A music theme doesn't have to be childlike or cheesy at all. Maybe you could find some vintage sheet music and have it framed. Musical items that are vintage or antique won't look teen-ish.

My Dad is a musician, and he now has all his guitars hanging on the wall in his studio. He did that as a space saving idea... but it looks really cool.

All the best with it... hope it turns out great.

Since you can't paint your walls, why don't you fold your favorite band shirts and frame them for wall art. That way you won't be destroying them.Party City has large plastic music notes that you could also put up on your walls.Wasn't DISCO popular in the 80's? You can get a whole mirror ball set up (ball, motor spotlight and colored plastic covers ) at Oriental Trading. They also have disco ball plastic beaded curtains.Check out their web site for a free catalog for more ideas. www.orientaltrading.com.

One thing that was very popular in the '80s was musical notes...perhaps you could applique some notes onto the new duvet cover, or tack them to the wall.
