There are plastic-backed Puppy Pads you can buy and put on the floor wherever you want to be his "place" if you can't get him outside in time.

Is the dog a puppy? Puppy's can't hold their bladder like older dogs and literally CAN'T WAIT. When mine was a pup, I took her out before we went to bed, I woke up at 3:30am and took her out again, and again at 7:30am before when I left for work. I also had to carry her from the crate to the door otherwise she'd pee on the floor because she couldn't hold it and apparently walking makes it harder to hold when they're not fully developed.
Don't give the dog water in the later hours at night (control the water intake by giving a little at a time so you can gage how much the dog drank and when he might need to go).
Crate the dog at night but make sure the crate isn't big enough to pee on one side and sleep on the other (of course this is considering your letting to dog go pee when he needs to and not forcing him to hold it past the time he can't).
Take the dog out first thing in the morning before you get your water, consider letting the dog go in your fenced yard. (Your problem with that seems kinda selfish?) In time the dog will go and come right back in. Get a doggie door.
Aside from all that, stop thinking about yourself so much and consider how you'd feel if you had to go and your caretaker wouldn't let you because they just didn't want to. Maybe you shouldn't have a dog if you can't handle the responsibility. Dogs are extremely depended and you need to consider the dogs welfare and not keep it for the wrong reasons.

If you have a fenced yard, you're being a bit ridiculous just not putting him out in it. I don't have a fenced yard and what I would do for one! I have a 2 month old puppy AND I'm 7 months pregnant and everytime he whimpers, I let him outside. It's called responsibility. If I can do it 7 months pregnant, working full-time, keeping my cats in the house while the dog goes out, doing laundry, cooking dinner and taking care of my senior citizen relative living in the house AND myself ... then, so can you.
The puppy pads are a great idea, though. Along with crate training him. I think ... you're just being lazy. I don't mean that to be rude, but you've taken on this responsibilty that is entailed with a "puppy", you really need to stick it out or give it away.
Good luck.

If you don't want to take the time (you being available 24 hrs a day - nights included) then maybe you need to rethink having a puppy . Can you always wait several hours without going potty? And he is little and can't wait more than 2-3 hrs (if you are lucky). Try waiting when you have to go to the bathroom and then wait some more and see how he feels.

Hm....well, you CAN get up at 5 I'm guessing, but choose not to. Dogs don't know that you don't want to get up. All they are aware of is the fact that they have to pee, and pee now. If you didn't want the responsibility of potty training it and gettiing up with it, etc, you shouldn't have gotten one. It's not fair to the dog. They can't wait...they're not programmed like humans to hold it when there are not any viable places to release. Try letting him out right before bed, and right away in the morning when you get up. All of the ideas about crate training, paper training, etc...are also good ideas. The quicker you get him trained, the quicker you can go back to sleeping all night.

You probably should have thought about that before you got a dog. When a dog has to go, he has to go. Imagine someone telling you to wait until they decided to wake up. That's not fair. Since you're up anyway, just let it out. Get a doggy door if you can't wait 5 minutes for your dog to use the bathroom.
Or crate train it.

I always take my dog out right before i go to bed and then in the morning i take her out first so we don't have any puddles in the house. It was a lot of work at first but in the long run it is not so bad.

You should of really thought about it before you got a dog. If your dog wines during the night, take the poor thing out. How hard is it when you wake up during the night, to take your dog out? If you can't handle taking a dog out a couple times a night, I feel really sorry for you. I take it you can't handle being responsible for anything. Poor Dog.

umm... when you really gotta go do you want to wait for someone to get a glass of water!?!!
You gotta get up when the dog needs to go and take him/her out so it knows that's where it's gotta go... otherwise... the dog will think it's fine and dandy to go potty on the floor in the living room!
get used to it. that's what being a dog parent's all about... once they grow up...their bladders get way better and they sorta get on a schedule and get used to going when they usually go...
i take the dog out in the Am... come back from work mid/late aftn. take the dog out again and sometimes before bed or not... they get used to it ... but for the first little while... you gotta get use to them!

Take him out just before bed and no water all night. Take him out as soon as you get up and then run water. You would not hold it if people were running water nearby and telling YOU to wait!
