Ok so you are suddenly told that you have to believe every single word of the Bible.
What do you do?
I mean all of it, the creation story, homosexuality being wrong, denying all the sins, no sex before marriage...etc etc

Take it or leave it?

Take it all, every word.

Since it is God's inspired word we don't have a choice in the matter. It is all absolutely true. It claims this for itself.

Christ said, "For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled." Matt 5/18

"Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods unto whom the word of God came, and the scipture cannot be broken....." John 10/35-36

Further, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God....." 2 Tim 3/16 & "Knowing this that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." 2 Pet 1/20-21

That is why our salvation, promised in the Scriptures, is certain, for God cannot break His most holy and infallible word. That is why we can most confidently trust it.

You make a great mistake in your question for if God the Holy Spirit gave it and has preserved it for our salvation (John 20/30-31,2 Tim 3/15) to give us a more sure word (2 Pet 1/19) then only by the Holy Spirit will you understand it.

Most definitely ALL.

As a Christian I didn't start that way. I thought I could pick and choose what I did and didn't believe. It took me a little while to realize that I could not maintain a proper perspective on my faith if I were selective about what I would and wouldn't believe.

Since doing so I have found that this approach has given me an appetite for seeking the truth in God's word and things that seem to be contradictions are naturally and with God's guidance, resolved.

Also I now realize that God is more than capable of maintaining the integrity of His written word.

Take your time to think about it.

I remember I had a lot of points to be clarified for me, which took a lot of time and some reading and talking to other people. But I wanted to believe, which you possibly don't. Do you?

Oh, I forgot. [Edit] Did that mysterious person who told you you have to believe every single word of the Bible mention something about certain things in it being metaphorical and not literal?

Suggestion; Distinguish between what the Bible says and what people claim the Bible says. Take it from first hand experience; the 'definitions' of words are different in the scriptures than man generally uses them. (In effect, 2 Tim. 2:15 applied; and if the word of truth is wrongly divided which many in the U.S. do presently).

I take it all, but do not read into it what is not there. You have mentioned the laws, but not the Grace. Christianity is all about the fact that we do not keep the laws. We all slip up sometimes. That is why Jesus came and sacrificed himself to take the punishment for our sins. The Old Tetsament, is "Thou shalt not." The New Testament is about "Even though you did wrong, I love you and forgive you."

Take it, I do believe every word of the bible, I may not understand it all and I know I sin and haven't followed it all, but I still believe because I have faith.

I would find a different group/church or whatever it is that is telling you this. Sounds like you are with some rather traditional fundamentalist christians. There are many wide and varied groups with differing perceptions and interpretations of such matters - find a group that suits you better - don't just go along with things you really don't believe in just to fit in or be accepted

I do believe every word, but not because anyone told me I had to. I came to that realization after years of diligent study; that I can trust the bible as God's inspired word.

I think it would be a very bad idea to force anyone to believe anything; one has to come to Him by one's own choice.

I already believe every word in the Bible. It was written by God through humans.

I already do believe all of it. I agree that the old testament was true for its time, and that the new testament basically covers all that stuff in the old testament that bothers me. So I don't have to stone anyone to death for sinning, because I'm a sinner too, so can't be throwing any stones.
