Easiest way to start is to buy a kit. It has most of what you need to make 5 gallons (or thereabouts!)., All you need is sugar, water and a brewing barrel (plastic with a tap attached). Oh and steriliser! :D

Your going to need at least 100.00 to get started right. Look for a brew shop around your city. Most of them have a Beer Equipment Kit. Then your going to want the stuff to make beer. as a beginner your going to want to start with a NO-Boil kit get one like.
Muntons American Light and a can of Muntons Extract Extra Light
1. Sanitize all of your equipment(whatever the beer will come in contact with).
2. Boil one gallon of water.
3. Open contents of Beer kit and pour into primary, then fill can or cans with boiling water and pour into primary.
4. Add either 3.3 lbs of unhopped extract OR 6 cups of corn sugar To primary.
5. Add cold to water to bring total volume to 5 gallons and stir.
6. Once temperature reaches 65-75 degrees F., Add yeast and stir.
7. Place lid with airlock(filled halfway with water) on primary.
8. Let sit for 7 days in primary.
9. After 7 days transfer to sanitized carboy and add stopper and Airlock(filed halfway with water).
10. After 5 to7 days transfer back to sanitized primary and add ¾ cup to one cup of corn sugar and then bottle.
11. Leave in bottle at room temp. for at least two weeks.
12. Then DRINK and ENJOY !!!!
note: step 4 is where u add the
Muntons American Light and a can of Muntons Extract Extra Light
you can use 6 cups of corn sugar insted of the malt extract but will not be as good and your cheap if you use the corn sugar
your going to have to tweek it to how it works best for you.

When the holiday season starts, homebrewing kits (and wine kits) start appearing in stores such as Wal-Mart. I would start with one of those if you don't have a lot of experience home-brewing.

A great beginnerskit is sold at mrbeer.com And the price is reasonable. It is how I got started brewing a few years ago. Since then I have expanded astronomically.
