you upgraded from me to xp. You need to install new drivers. Go to your manufactorer's site (if you have a dell computer go to dell.com) and look for drivers on their site.

Did you remove ME completely before you installed XP? and what XP are you talking about , Pro or Home? If you did not format ME out of your hard drive, that's the source of your problem

over the top ? should have done a complete wipe and install do you mean the drive itself dosnt work or the burning software if its the software then reinstall it if its the drive then right click my computer
properties
hardware
device manager
dvd-cdrom drives
if its listed there click on it and uninstall
then restart your computer it should come up with found new hardware diolauge you should be set if that dont work do a clean install

now you got the same thing as two people trying to do the same job with the same machine. you need to only have one windows on one computer. if you got two they are going to be fighting eachother and mess up the computer.
