I'm latino and I hope I'm intelligent enough to vote for someone because I agree with his/her's political view and not because they changed their name to jose or rosita. Not all latinos in the U.S. are illegal or ignorant some of us are intelligent and speak English fluently and do follow current events. I find it insulting that you would think people vote for people for their names.

I think Latino voters are a lot smarter than that.

The pols are sucking up to them big time But Latinos don't have a history of voting in large numbers.

Will that change this year?

Not likely.

i think that is very doubtful. although i'm sure some politicians change there name at some point, i doubt they'd have a "stage name" that sounds hispanic, just to appeal to that demographic. it wouldn't make sense if you think about it....for every hispanic vote they'd pick up they'd probably lose one non-hispanic vote, racism and prejudices have an effect on how people vote. (much like name recognition, and the c, r, d or l behind the name...)

Celebrating cinco de mayo or calling themselves Juan or Rosita is not enough, what we need is somebody that attends to the real issues that are important for the Latino community:

-Immigration
-Equal opportunities
-Bilingual programs

I have heard about this with one lady in particular, but I can't remember her name. In my search, so far, I've found this interesting article about newscasters changing their names to non anglo sounding names. Check it out:
