It is cold! The winter in Beijing normally comes in late Nov or early Dec, sometimes the temperature can drop down to below 0, which would be below 32 degree Fahrenheit. If you like snow, you will love it, you might even enjoy a white Christmas! :-) Of course, that also depends on where you are from, if you are from New York, probably it's okay; but if you are from the South, you do need to dress warm!

But the winter Beijing is also very charming, at least you don't have to fight with the tourist crowds and get better hotel deals! You can really enjoy the city in her winter coat!

Beijing is not that cold - well, he was right, you can look for December to be around 0 centigrade, maybe a little colder. Beijing does not get much snow, maybe once or twice a year a dusting up to 2 inches.
What you can expect is raw: north wind makes that 0 degrees feel a lot less comfortable than the same temperature in New York. And overcast, and bad pollution from those burning coal for heat.
