That depends on the school system. In some university systems, you must be in good standing at the most recently attended school before you will be admitted. I suggest reading the college catalog. They're always full of information. Also, federal funding will follow you wherever you go, state funding is different and there is usually a limit on how long you can receive the aid. Also there's something called SAP; satisfactory academic progess. It usually means that you have to pass a certain percentage of all courses attempted to continue to receive funding. It is usually around 60-70%.

The Stafford loan is the most commonly received form of financial aid that must be repaid. Since the Stafford loan and many other types of loans are are federally administered, there is a limit on how much you can borrow annually. Therefore, all schools of which I am aware will require you to complete a FAFSA to qualify for financial aid. Thus, your financial aid history will follow you to your new school. But, it is not the financial aid history following you that is the problem.

The problem is your grades from your old school following you. Your best bet at getting back into school is to go to your local community college rather than a 4 year school. The community colleges are used to being the "place of second chance" and will help you if there is anyway to do so. (You may be forced to take some remedial courses or you may only be allowed to take a limited number of hours.) Be honest with your community college about the issues at the old school. If you are deceptive about the issue and it is later discovered, you could be kicked out of school for the deception.

Good luck and best wishes with your education!

Call the college/colleges that you are interested in; I assume it will not be the same one that you left. Their financial aid office will be able to advice you as to what your options may be. You didn't mention your major, if it were nursing, you can actually go to a hospital in your area, sign a contract that you will work there for x amount of years when you've completed college and they will pay for your college education- so call the school you're interested in and tell them what you are majoring in. PS do not try to be admitted to ANY school as undecided after you mess up, you probably wont get in. Good luck
