There is a thing called Butter flavoring which is commonly used in commercial baking. You taste it particularly in those butter cookies that come in the cans (danish butter cookies). You can buy it for use at home:

The good ones have real butter and real vanilla, instead of artificial. Also use good quality cake flour.

To me, some butter cookies have a hint of almond or lemon - depending on who makes them. Technically I guess they aren't butter cookies, but the cooks called them that.
