He's probably just shy and scared because he's in a brand-new place, with brand-new people, and he feels overwhelmed. If he's found a safe place to hide -- like under the bed -- let him hide there. Go in every so often and lie down on the floor next to the bed, and talk to the cat. Pet him if he'll let you. Feed him and talk to him while he eats. He'll get less shy.
We had one that hid for weeks. But eventually he started hiding closer and closer to the people. Finally he began hiding under the bed where people were, and purring. Then he came out of hiding.

I have a Himalayan that is pretty shy sometimes too. He will be 2 at the end of Feb, so he's young still. Dale (my kitty) loves to get attention, but on his own terms. He doesn't really like to be held, but he loves to be pet. He loves to play with his brother (a Persian, named Chip) and his "cousin" Oreo (about 4 months old). Get toys and let him have fun. Give him treats too to encourage him to come out and visit. He will come around.

At least you can pet him. I have a 6 month kitten that I have had for almost two months now and I can't even pet her. She loves to play and roam the house, but don't touch me.
So, if you can pet him and catch him your lucky.
I would get toys out and his own bed or blanket.
Don't let him down after petting, take him to his bed and lay him in it. That way he knows where he is supposed to be. Also, food, water and litter near by.
You have one up on me with my kitten.

I have a Himalayan who we had from a kitten (he is now 9). One thing about Himalayans is they love to play - do you have any toys or anything that he can chase about. Even a simple screwed up piece of newspaper can provide hours of entertainment.
Are there any other factors in your house that could be causing him stress. Another cat? dog? Small child? Himalayans are not normally nervy - so there could be something in his immediate environment that is making him a little unsettled

Let him find his comfort zone on his own. He will come to you in his own time. He needs to learn about his new environment and find his own safe place. Don't force him out, he will come out when he feels a bit more secure. He's been taken from his mom and the only place he ever knew, so give him space and time. You won't be sorry.

Leave him alone and let him settle in to his new home. Once he feels comfortable he will come out and start to explore and soon will be doing normal kitten antics.
