Fuel cells are supposidly the next big thing. Fusion might become viable in the future.

Nothing. All known ways of producing electricity have been known for decades at least.

Solar panels are getting cheaper and more efficient, but are still too expensive for use on a massive enough scale to make a dent in fossil fuel use.
