It stings going in. But was such a relief after the pitocin. But to this day i can't do situps or crunches because the spot on my back where they put in the needle hurts like hell anytime I try.

The only side effect I had with the epidural was that it didn't work with my two youngest children. They kept upping my dose until they couldn't give me anymore and I could still feel it all. But, on the plus side, I haven't heard of anyone else going through this so hopefully you wont have any problems.

Well, with my daughter they didn't turn it off soon enough for me to get in a gravity friendly position to push, so I ended up breaking my tailbone from pushing in a stupid position. Then I had to push for 3 more hours on a broken tailbone!-( My butt hurt for 3+ years!
I also ended up with an "epidural headache" that lasted three days!
With my son i withstood 12 hours of labor on pitocin (Thanks to "Birthing From WIthin" classes and book!) and finally ended up with a c-section, for which I had a spinal instead of an epidural. It was soooo much better and there were no side effects from the spinal.

I loved the epidural while on it! However, since I have a high tolerance they had to inject me several times during my C-section! The anesthesiologist was shocked how I still had sensation! Anyways, coming off of it was awful!!! I had shock. Uncontrollable shakes and a miserable headache. If you are going in for a c-section get a spinal block. It doesn't last as long, it is stronger and there was no after shock!
I had the epidural with my first son, and the spinal block with my second. Even if I didn't have to have a c-section, there was no way I was going to prolong the pain of delivery any longer! I had nothing to prove. I am Strong enough, woman enough and mother enough to be secure in making that decision. I dared anyone to challenge me on that! I still have two beautiful boys that tell me it was all worth it and I didn't have to feel ANYTHING. Okay, mostly nothing. Good luck!

I had the epidural a few times and I never experience any side affects. Maybe a day or two but it goes away.. Some women still feel slight pain in a year...

I have had the epidural twice and I didnt have any side effects. I am still, to this day, able to put my finger on the place they stuck the needle but I have never had any side effects. It stung alittle when they first inserted the tube and administered the medicine but it was worth every second. I would strongly encourage every woman who is pregnant to have it. Good luck.

you will feel a pinch when the epidural goes in after that you don't feel anything for a couple of hours you may have back problems later on in life but best of luck to you.

I had an epidural with my first and NOTHING will stop me from having one with my second!! lol There was very little discomfort with me or any of my friends, who ALL had them also!
if you are concerned about it, you should chat with your doctor and voice your concerns before hand. I think you'll find that the pros out weigh the cons! Very best of luck! And remember, if you opt for the epidural, sit still and enjoy the ride!
