I have a horrible feeling the floors of a friend's mobile home are particle board... she wants to shampoo her carpets - is this ok to do?

Yeah if she doesn't saturate the carpet. If she really wets it down and it takes awhile to dry, the joints might swell a bit. Is there no pad underneath?? Usually a pad blocks shampooing water from getting to the boards below.

Just use the least amount of water possible, and suck it back it immediately......and keep sucking. The more air circulation the faster the drying. If the climate is humid, use a dehumidifier.

I've been doing mine for 7 years and there is no problem. Even replaced the carpet once so I had a very good look at the sub-straight(particle board). No damage done. You would not want to soak plywood any more then you wood particle board though plywood is stronger.

I think before you do anything you should test it out using a small corner of the carpet and not using too much shampoo just to be on the safe side.

Shore, I've done it many times, You just don't want to let water set on particle board.
