Okay, so I have a little bit over 2500 songs stored on my computer. I cleared out my iTunes library because I was having some issues with it... and when I went to load them back up, only a little over 1900 songs loaded back into it. So, I went into the folders and tried adding them to the library, and for a second it looks like iTunes is doing something with it, but then... nothing happens. I can't get those 600 or so files to open up in iTunes. Nothing has changed with the files, I've reinstalled... I don't know what to do.

Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

They are all mp3 files, none actually bought from the iTunes music store.

It really depends on the type of file it is -- since it sound like these files were already par tof your itunes lirary before, make sure that, if they were music files you bought from itunes,

a) you are logged in to your itunes account
b) your computer is authorized to play itunes content
