particularly kitten/cat food. I just learned about IAMS and Hill's today. I want to buy my kitten cruelty free food, but it's either very expensive or I have to order it online. Any suggestions?

People are being very rude and are also assuming I want my kitty to be a vegitarian. By cruelty I mean the testing P&G, the owner of IAMS does on their animals. I want her to be healthy but I don't want to encourage those practices. If you have anything negitive or scarcastic to say do not answer this question. I have no interest in what you have to say and chances are it has no bearing on my question. Don't answer unless you can tell me something useful.

Cats are obligate carnivores and must have meat protein in their food if they are to be heathly animals. Feeding your cat a vegan or vegetarian diet would be an ultimate cruelty.
The manufacturer of Iams has been accused of animal cruelty for many years and they have done nothing to correct the situation. The manufacturer is Proctor & Gamble. There cat food is lousy and costs $2.50 a lb. I have not used any of their household products, shampoo, dishwasher soap etc. for the least fifteen years.
Some good cat foods made by manufacturers who are in the pet food industry only are: Solid Gold (Katzen Flocken), Eagle Pack, Felidae, Natural Balance, Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul. These companies use high quality protein in their foods and "fillers" such a brown rice, oats, peas, etc. rather than cheap corn. Their prices are lower than the Iams or Science Diet (both lousy foods for cats) and more expensive by 50 cents to $l.00 a bag more than the other grocery store brands.
Some of these brands have "kitten" foods and that is not necessary. A high quality food good for a cat is also good for a kitten.
Do not use just one good brand. Rotate around three of them. Cats should not be on just one protein (usually chicken) for their entire lives. The brands mentioned use some lamb, duck, turkey, salmon etc. Do do a bag of one brand, then use a bag of another, etc. So one bag may be slightly more, another slightly less. I am using a bag of Nature's Logic right now. It has 38% protein from duck meal, chicken meal and salmon meal. It is pricey at $2.60 per lb. Next I will use a bag of Natural Balance, 34% protein from venison at $1.66 per lb.
When you first start switching foods do it gradually mixing some new into the old. My cats are so used to different foods that I just open the bag and they eat it.

Cats NEED meat! They need it to be healthy. It is nature.
Don't try to change it, your kitty will not be healthy.
I feed my cats Science diet for years. It is costly, but my babies are in great shape.
If you are planning to feed your cat veggies, it is cruelty.
Give your pet to someone that will take a proper care of their diet then.

I feed my cats Natural Balance; it varies in price and variety, and no it's not cheap, but it's cheaper than a lot of others.

Your cat would like a nice fresh bird. SNAP! That WOULD be cruel! Did you know that if your car weighed 112 pounds and you weighed 4 pounds that you would be the cats food? How cruel would that be? Here is my suggestion. Living things, especially animals and sometimes plants, eat other living things.So.........get a grip, get over it and get the cheap stuff at Walmart.
