I know a lot of owners let their cats out unsupervised, and even though it may seem ok, i don't feel it is right. I mean, cats are probably the only pets that can roam around the neighborhood, but you can think of the many dangers that occur to cats. In my experience, I have lived in three cities in my life (which is 14 years) and there are cats that wander into other neighbors' yards, driveways, and even into their homes on occasion. So are they allowed to roam freely?

And if they don't cause problems, why do they run into other people's homes when unexpected?

I have lived in California before, and I recall scaring one of many cats that were eating off the grass in my backyard lawn.

I do not appreciate cats who kill the rodents. I happen to be a lover of rodents and small animals. So please do not tell me that they can kill these animals.

Most place do have a city bylaw that doesnt allow cats to roam free 24 -7.
The sad thing is people know that there is no inforcement on this therefore people dont care and dont care about the well being of there cat and shouldnt own one.
Check with your city hall what the bylaw is with cats and what is allowed and not allowed. then inform your neighbour about the bylaw. If all else fails call your local shelter and they can put a cat trap out. If the owner goes to rescue there pet they have a fine to pay first and if no that gives the cat a new start on a better life where someone might take better care of them.

I have 4 cats and I won't let them roam outside, yes it's too dangerous for my kitty to roam the neighborhood with cars, and other animals that can hurt them, I'd be a nervous wreck worrying about them if they went outside. Yes they are allowed to roam freely people aren't afraid of a cat like they would be with a dog, where i live we have problems with dog packs roaming around so If i go for a walk I need to carry my gun because I don't want to get bit by a mean dog. my neighbor's cat is an outside cat and he kills the mice and leaves them all around my house!! Poor little mice I love mice they're cute dam that cat

They are allowed where I live but I don't agree with it. In my old house there was a lady 2 doors down that had at least a dozen cats and they roamed all over the neighborhood. This would make my dog bark, which was tied in my back yard. Unfortunately, I had complaints and was threatened to have my dog put down because of the damn cats running free through my neighborhood. So eventually we moved. Problem solved.

Where I live now, I only have one close neighbor. We had cats here over the years that we had in the house but would let outside for litter breaks and fresh air. Unfortunatey we lost a few due to vehicles. It was hard on my kids so a couple years ago we got a couple kittens that we only kept inside. Only litter box inside, no outside play at all. What I failed to mention was we still had stray cats roaming around here. Now these cats were crazy. We couldn't even get near them. Every once in awhile our male cat would get outside by sneaking out but we would get him as soon as we could as long as he didn't hide under the steps. Well this summer he got sick and we took him to the vet. There was nothing they could do for him, no idea what was wrong. That same day he died in my oldest daughters arms after going into convulsions. Two months later our female cat apparantly got the same thing and she died. My daughter couldn't go near her because she didn't want to go through that again. Once again I forgot to mention during this time the strays that were hanging around here seemed to dissappear also. Now what I am thinking is when my male cat was sneaking outside, I think he caught something from the rejects that were outside and eventually died but before he died I think he gave the same desease to our female cat. Now that is just my opinion for as good as it is.

But anyway sorry for the long story, but that is why I don't think cats should be allowed to run at large. I have a kitty graveyard in my back yard to prove it. Also, dogs are not allowed to run at large legally, so why should cats. Once again, just my opinion.

In alot of states there are laws stating your pet needs to be on a leash at ALL times and even still I see pet owners walking their dogs without one. If it is a house cat keep it in the house! If it is a outside cat get a leash or it will be a stray or road kill. People that get angry at motorists that kill their pets when they let them roam around all day and night are wrong and their pets are nuisances! How many times do you see innocent people and children getting attacked by a animal!

I live about 30 minutes outsdie of a large city, and a lot of the people around here let there cats out, and there isn't a month that goes by that I don't see a cat on the side of the road.

If cats are allowed outside, they are prey to larger animals and cars, they are also exposed to more diseases and illness. Not to mention they use peopl's garden's and sand boxes as their toilets.

I think it's fine for them to raom. My cats usually stay close though. The main problem is cats mating with other roaming cats. Thats how i got a second bundle of love. It's up to the owner to let their catsout, but they should have a collar.

I actually dont find outside cats a nucience. I have 5 cats, all indoor because I dont want my cats to get into fights. And if they were to not come home one night I'd be worried. But thats why some people should provide PROPER homes for cats/kittens that they get/rescue. Before we got and cats we had a cat that came around and we'd feed him, but no one wants to take a cat whos lived outside for so long. Its nice to feed them and pet them but more than that, its tricky. Cats who are outside who have other owners you dont want to take them away from them. But if you know whos pets they are I'd warn them. Our neighbors had a dog that barked and whined cause it was always outside and we talked to him about it after he "ran away to a no kill animal shelter" lol he said that the dog could be out there for hours and he would bring him in and he'd poop as soon as he got in there. There is many possiblilities why cats are out side cats only.

They are allowed to roam, but they shouldn't be. Outdoor cats on the average have a lifespan about five times shorter than indoor cats, and their deaths are almost always gruesome and preventable.

If they are house cats, then that means that they DONT go outside. Our first cat was an outdoor cat, and he came home poisened 5 months after we got him. He died right in front of us. I'll never let my cats out again. The two I have now, have never gone outside.

They really shouldnt be out roaming, they dig in ppls gardens and crap in their yards...Theyre in danger if theyre out roaming, as far as Im concerned.

I believe in the humane societys thing. You shouldn't let the cat out to roam free. There are alot of dangers facing cats that roam like other strays that can carry diseases, cars, people who are sick asses who like to poison animals.
