the spore is how some plants reproduce, it takes the place of a seed which is more complex than a spore. Moss, mushrooms, ferns, and corrals reproduce by spores. If I remember correctly it is asexual reproduction, were only one plant is needed to cause reproduction--I mite be wrong on this point how ever. It has been a long time since science class for me.

All plants go through the alternation of generations between spore producing and gamete producing stages. Some plant classes release spores some retain the spore to grow into a miniature gametophyte. Moss release spores & nonvascular. Ferns release spores & vascular Gymnosperm & angiosperm retain spores & are vascular. Male spores mature then are released as pollen from cones or flower stamen Female spores mature as gametophytes but are retained as ovules in cones or in flower ovaries. Ovules produce ova that are fertilized by sperm nuclei from pollen.
