A good tool to track daily caloric intake is a log. You can use a website like www.myfooddiary.com to keep track of all the food you eat during the day. The site also has preloaded nutritional information on all kinds of foods.

You can also just keep a notebook. You'll need to track portions and calories on all your food, but you might have to make estimates at restaurants and such.

It can be difficult to be so disciplined as to record all food during the day, but after a while it becomes little no inconvenience at all. And it's been called one of the best ways to keep on track during a diet or to control overeating.
