Hey... I'm incredibly depressed, and have been for the past three or four months. A horrible string of events has been occuring in my life, and with each one, I've just felt worse and worse. I'd say that I'm honestly on the verge of killing myself. Anyone know of any effective cures for depression?

You've taken the first step...you've recognised that you are depressed.
Now get yourself to the docs - there is NO shame in it. Getting help in the form of tablets is fine - it is the kickstart that your body needs before it can even begin fundtioning like it used to.

Your doc will also be able to offer to send you for counselling. If you go NHS you could be waiting 6 months, but believe me it is worth it. They can help change your perception of things so you no longer feel 'picked on' by life....

Exercise: I know you wont want to but even a walk to the shops can make you feel good. Exercise releases endorphins into the blood - the thing that gives you a 'feel good factor'.

Check your eating habits: eating a sluggish diet, not eating much at all or skipping meals can make you feel worse.

Talk to a friend/colleague/family member - they wont be able to help you if you dont let them know there is something wrong.

I talk from personal experience and from seeing a very close friend through an incredibly rough time. Hope some of that helps. Take care. Dont do anything rash - you are worth more than that. :-). x x

Yes! Amazing ones! And it is more then a cure...is a blessing!
Check Katie Byron on You Tube or on her website www.thework.com.
This is a woman who years ago awoke to Reality and is helping thousands of people find their inner peace. Her presence is of total love and non-judgement and it is surrounded by an immense peace.
I have been personally to one of her events called The School and I have met people who came with the most incredible stories, problems, abuses... you name it. Everybody came in some kind of inner pain, conflict or confusion and left peaceful, with more understanding, more clarity and freedom. A complete transformative work!
What she does, she makes people wright their stories and after together take the stuff that makes you suffer, or deppressed, angry, etc and you go through a process where you are asked 4 questions and a turnaround.
It is not only highly beneficial, helping you see the light at the end of the tunnel but also hillarious.
And the beauty of it is that you can learn to do it for yourself.
Try to spend some tome in You Tube where she works with different people and you will see the transformation for yourself.
With some patience go through all the videos until you will get the idea what it is about and check also her website.
God bless!

First, I am so sorry for the horrible string of events you have experienced. I do understand the feeling of wanting to off yourself. I would strongly recommend visiting a psychologist. They can evaluate your situation and your state of mind and best determine if/which medication is right for you. They can also help you get through your trying times. I don't know if this is any constellation, everyone goes through depression at some point in their lives. It is how we deal with it that helps us to come out of it. You obviously want to live or you would not have written. You may have to visit a couple of psychologist before finding the one that will help you. Don't loose hope and know that you may feel alone, but the truth is you are not. In the mean time (Right Away) you should talk to a close friend or clergy (even if you are not religous).

I have been there. Recently. Maybe not to the point of suicide - but pretty bad.
I felt like there was no one who understood, everything was going wrong in my life one step at a time. I was depressed and lonely and I still go through minor phases of it ever now and then.

BUT you have to let go of that depression. You get so used to it it almost starts to comfort you to feel that way! STOP IT. Force yourself to grab a friend - any friend and go get out into the world! Find a hobby like art or collecting something...sports or reading.

There is so much more to life - you can't give up so easily. Everything till get better with time you just have to devise a plan to make yourself get past this rough patch!

It sounds as if your depression is situational and not clinical. If you feel you have lost control of your life, seek professional help. If you are prescribed medication, take it and the minute you feel better about life and yourself, get out and be with people, make new friends and acquaintances and you'll be doing yourself a big favor. Depression can go away, you know. It just takes time, in most cases.

Get help, now, please!

One sure fire way to get your mind of yourself and your problems is to find a place to do volunteer work with those who are less fortunate than you. It will make you thankful for all you have. Go help serve meals at a homeless shelter and sit down with some of the folks to hear their stories. It will get you refocused quickly.

I'm not discounting the things in your life that have been sad or overwhelming to you. As a person who suffers from depression occasionally, I can tell you that getting your focus off of yourself is one sure fire way to pull yourself out of the pit.

If you really don't want to live, PLEASE call a suicide hot-line or go to the ER and get help. Suicide is never the answer.

Your depression is linked to circumstances in your life, therefore you'd expect to be depressed and it doesn't require a "cure". You must know that when things get better you'll stop being depressed. You only have to worry when things are going very well yet you're still depressed. You'll be fine.

Get up and get out. No matter hard and how bad, you must force yourself to get out of the house every morning and stay out until 4 or 5 pm every day. Go to the movies, go to an AA meeting, go fishing, go to the park and feed the birds.

there is no cure for depression. From what you've said so far, it sounds like your depression is a psychological problem not a biological problem. Go see a psychologist.
