Hi,
Well I have experienced lots of things with puppies. Yes they will chew on boxes, shoes, pillows, etc. You name it. I found that through patience, I was able to change their habit. I would take the box or item from them, tell them no in a firm tone and then replace it with a chew toy , or if it was after the fact, I would take them to the area of the box debris ( or other items)hold their nose to the torn up box pieces, say no in a firm tone (they can tell when you disapprove of their actions), then give them a chew toy and praise them show them approval. As they age they will get out of that habit for the most part. I had a puppy who when she grew up, used to ravage my pillows if I left her home alone too long. That was a toughy, especially when I showed disapproval and was met with rejection which sometimes took her 2 days to get over. Puppies are just wonderful parts of our lives that we can help to grow in quality ways. They have a 2500 word vocabulary (at least the last time I heard), and let me tell you they really can understand. Sometimes a smell from a box, like food, sweets, etc. will attract, sometimes it is their teething. You might take extra steps to keep boxes out of your puppy's reach. They require a lot of love, and a lot of quality time, but it's worth it. They will love you un-conditionally. My last puppy lived to the ripe old age of 18 which is pretty un-common, but she was absoulutely wonderful. I miss her still and she has been gone for 2 years. Patience and love will go a long way toward raising a mannerly dog, but you must put in disipline as well. Good Luck sym

oh yes! My golden retriever is just turning 6 months old, and ever since my family has had her she loves to chew up anything paper related. She loves old sticks and wrappers too. Luckily she hasn't been harmed by chewing (or swallowing) some stuff. I'm grateful-my puppy thinks everything is food or a chew toy! :)

I have a pug puppy, who surprisingly hasn't chewed up cardboard boxes. He's chewed up pieces of paper, my slippers, and his puppy pads.

When my big dog (9 years old now) was a puppy he ate (not just chewed!!) just about everything...including cardboard boxes. Luckily he mostly outgrew it, although he still likes to eat paper products (kleenexes, scraps of paper, paper towels). =)

yes. Puppies chew on a lot of things - boxes, furniture, shoes, clothes, trash... anything they can get their teeth into.
YOU need to provide them with PROPER toys for their chewing. Puppies teeth and they need thing to chew on. As they get older, they still need toys to entertain them.
YOU also need to SUPERVISE YOUR PUPPY so that it DOESN'T chew up things that could make it sick, or harm the dog.
YOU also need to reprimand the dog when it gets into something it shouldn't, replace it with a toy, and then praise the dog for chewing on the right toy.
Do you see a pattern here? This is YOUR responsibility as a pet owner to discipline your dog and provide it appropriate toys.

My lab loves cardboard! She chews on it all the time. It's funny. She grabs a big chucnk of it, and then takes off running and expects me to chase her! And if I don't, she goes and hides it!
The silly goose!
