My kids were 18 months. For the first few weeks, I had their beds in my room with a gaurd rail on both sides. Once I was sure they were going to be fine, I moved them into thier own room. Once they were old enough,20 months, I took of the guard rails. we had one accident, though. My 3 year old Derin was 23 months at the time and got out of his bed and climbed through our doggy door. We woke up in the middle of the night when our oldest, Miachel started throwing up. My husband noticed Derin was missing, and started screaming his name. Derin obviously heard him and came back inside. he said " WOOF! I am a doogie daydee" We decided to put a sliding guard rail that only opens from the outside on their door at night. It worked for us!

Toddler bed uses crib mattress. But "usually" the child that can climb out of the bed or try to needs to be in a toddler bed for their safety and if the child doesn't try to climb out then When too big for a crib or when ever you thing the child can sleep on the bed through the night without falling off.

For a toddler bed it would be a crib size mattress. It depends on the child. Does the child have regular sleep pattern becasue with my son he started sleeping in a toddler bed when he was 1 and my daughter start sleeping in toddler bed when she was 1 1/2. And my son was in a twin size bed by 2 1/2.

My daughter started sleeping in a toddler bed when she was 2. Just makes sure that it has stable side rails and it just takes the same mattress that you had in the crib. So yes, a crib mattress

Toddler beds take crib sized mattresses and linen and can be used as young as 18 months or a little bit younger if your child is ready.

My son never tried climbing out of his crib until he was 2. We never put him in a toddler bed. We went straight to a twin bed. A toddler bed only holds 100 lbs so if we wanted to lay in bed with him to read him a story we weren't able to. That is why we chose the twin bed instead.

Keep your child in the crib until they either start climbing out and are a danger to themselves, or they reach the age where you can trust them to stay in bed and not get up in the middle of the night and start getting into stuff. Or, if you think they need a toddler bed, put a gate in their door so they cant escape and make sure their bedroom is 110% baby-proof. All things like shelves and dressers need to be properly secured to the walls with straps so the child cant pull it down on themselves.
