It runs in my family, and I have a minor case of it.

Additional Details: I might have a minor case of Asperger's with depression. The Asperger's has been in my family, but the depression symptoms have only shown up in the last 6 months. I'm on Effexor XR right now.

No specific treatment for the core symptoms of Asperger syndrome is available, and no cure exists for the disorder. Educational and behavioral supports are the primary treatments used for individuals with Asperger syndrome. Psychopharmacology and other treatments may also be used to manage some of the problem behaviors associated with Asperger syndrome.

What are your symptoms?

As you may no there are a host of sub category's of this disorder.
ADD/ADHD being one, Schizophrenia being one, depression being one, ticks, bi-polar disorder is in there if I remember correctly and I can not remember the rest. I have the doctors report somewhere which he has 7-8 of them on this.

We to have it in the household, youngest being the one who has been diagnosed in the immediate family.

Yes it does run in the family which is a debatable issue. Some people who have children with this do not want to know that it runs in the family, I am assuming because they may have it and do not want it?

Autism is one of those things that if you have it you have it. My son who is diagnosed is on no drugs for his. He is already on a nasty epileptic medication he doesn't need another.

I am told there is a great facility here in Oregon for the study of this (supposed to be one of the best in the country). Of course it is on the other side of the mountain then where we live so we have not been there.

I myself am diagnosed as ADHD which of course is a symptom of Aspergers. I was on a medication but the side effects were so much worse then the symptoms. I am a spaz case and I am OK with this lol! I also dance to my own tune and those who do not like uniqueness my have a problem with this but I do not and am very proud of my different ways!

Hope you learn about this and go get diagnosed if not for full Aspergers Syndrome maybe one or more of the symptoms. It does make live easier putting a name to what you have. If you choose to be on meds. Just remember there are side effects..

Disability does recognize some of these symptoms as a disability. This has helped so much with my son!! This is one of those disabilities that people do not see, some people can be very cruel!

I know of no medication for Asperger's and medication isn't really a long-term answer anyway. Sooner or later, you're going to have to face up to it. There are services out there for people with Asperger's, most of them state-sponsored. Therapy will help you a lot more than medication ever will in the long run.

I have seen Olanzapine work well in one of my Asperger's clients. Even though Olanzapine is an antipsychotic, it definitely worked for him.
Most treatments are behavioural and social learning though, to help the patient learn to recognise tone of voice and facial expressions etc. and how to respond appropriately.

There is no specific course of treatment or cure for AS. Treatment, which is symptomatic and rehabilitational, may include both psychosocial and psychopharmacological interventions such as psychotherapy, parent education and training, behavioral modification, social skills training, educational interventions, and/or medications including psychostimulants, mood stabilizers, beta blockers, neuroleptics, and tricyclic antidepressants.
