Yes. There was an ancient Egyptian goddess named Bast. (Or Bastet.) She had the body of a human female with a cat's head. You can read more about her at the following link:

The first feline goddess was Mafdet, but the only goddess to be portrayed as a domestic cat was Bast(also known as Bastet), goddess of fertility, the moon, and protector of all cats. The cat was revered as her sacred form. The penalty for killing a cat in ancient Egypt was death. It was said that in 525 B.C the Persians(at war with the Egyptians) lined a row of cats in front of them, sure that no Egyptian would harm a cat, and they were right, the Egyptians retreated from battle.

Cats, sacred to the goddess Bastet, were often mummified when they died, and the little mummies were sold to temple visitors, who could then take them to the temple and give them as gifts or offerings to the goddess Bastet. The ancient Egyptians, when they wanted to give a gift to Bastet, would offer statuettes in the form of a cat and place them at her temple. They respected cats because they believed it would please Bastet. Just as they were respectful to other animals that were sacred to other deities. They respected all animals, however. Animals, such as cats, weren't the gods themselves, and weren't worshipped as gods. They were sacred to the gods - sort of like a divine mascot.
