I really don't think too much is bad for children. Its what you allow them watch on the TV is what determines the goodness or badness of it. Allow your child to watch educational shows and things that wont have a negative effect on their mind.Stores are selling a whole wide variety of educational DVDs and videos for all ages you can buy for your kids to watch. And you wont believe the results.(They even have educational video games) You should really try it.Good luck on your decision.

Yes, but at the same time no. I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old. As long as your child gets adiquite exercise, there is no such thing. As long as it's not junk! My kids watch Disney and educational cartoons so I know that they aren't watching things they shouldn't be. I don't see how it can be bad if your child still plays and goes outside, don't worry about it!

I was strict on what went in my children's minds. Just because something is animated, for example, does not mean it is good for their socialization or isn't bad for them. My kids know it as mind trash. What goes in their minds forms them. As well as having children, I work with them and see what they watch and are around in real life. Watching tv nowdays is about like Russian Roulette. Much of what is shown desensitizes them to violence and sex. Just keep in mind that until a certain point, kids don't realize the real difference between real and fantasy and think things on tv are fine.

The AAP recommends that children don't watch TV until they are pre-school aged. I think that's a bit unrealistic. My little one is almost 2 and she watches TV regularly. However, she ONLY watches educational shows. It has helped her in several areas.

I have heard that too much TV can deprive your child of necessary social interaction needed for language and social development.

Well, it takes away from real social interaction as well as potentially exercise.
Watching TV is habit-forming.
In adults, there is less brain activity than in those who are staring at a blank wall!
I'd try to not let them ever get into the habit, and keep it an occasional occurrence.

All in excess is bad. I only would suggest to be sure that you approve what your kid watches.
