pro-lifers argue that god created the life (soul) of a embryo at conception and it is wrong (murder?) to have an abortion.
my question is .....isn't it a paradox in the pro-life argument that women occasionally have miscarriages?
I mean, if you want to say that to god all life is the same whether you are an adult or embyo, why didn't god "intellectually design" womans' reproductive system better so that miscarriage is more rare or not existent? Are you going to argue that it was god's will for that miscarriage to occur, because, in general, god punishes mankind with stuff like that because of mankind's general sin? Or better yet, that god speciffically didn't want that woman to have a child? Why would god tease a woman with the joy and yearning of having a child and then let it die for no reason?

Excellent question and well-worded.

And for a god who is all-powerful, it would make him responsible for more abortions than any doctor.

God does not "tease." God does not play games.

First off, there are so many reasons women miscarry. Many of them are our own mistakes. Drugs. Bulemia. yadda yadda.

Second, why is miscarriage more important that a child dying at any stage in life? The worst most traumatic thing for any parent is to watch their child die.

But it happens.

You can call me simple. You can call me feeble minded. But there's a reason it's called the "mystery of faith." With so much trauma, why do we have faith?

I don't see death or miscarriage or AIDS as punishments from God. I just don't. Some do. I think it's wrong of them to assume they know God's will.

My friend died earlier this year. Perfectly healthy guy. His heart just stopped. Good cholesterol. No other problems. Just stopped. He called his fiance and asked her to come home because he wasn't feeling well. When she walked in the front door 10 minutes later he was dead. And apparently had been so from the moment he hung up the phone.

Is God punishing her? No. Is God punishing me? No. Why did he die then? I will know some day. I will know when I see him again. I know I will see him again.

The difference between a miscarriage and an abortion is that one is natural the other is not. One is spontaneous. The other is man made. We have no right to take a life. We are not gods.

Women don't just have a few miscarriages, some medical studies estimate that up to 50% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. Most of these of course are before the woman even knows she is pregnant, and just has what she thinks is a late, heavy period. So god is allowing an awful lot of these unique marvels of his grace to die.

Secondly, if god truly is omniscient and transcends time and space, then he knew in advance that all of those "babies" he caused to be created would not live. In fact, he deliberately did it.

Following the argument along, god actually allows abortion...he knew the pregnancy would occur (but didn't prevent it) knew the woman would seek an abortion (and didn't prevent it) and in turn created the abortionist. Seems like an awful lot of wasted creation there, if he just wants them flushed down the toilet.

That is one mixed up mysterious friggin' deity, he always finds the most spectaculary inefficient ways of accomplishing his plan. (see: Noah's Ark)

That question makes about as much sense as asking "If God values life, why do people die?". People die for all kinds of reasons, at all possible ages. Infants die from SIDS. Toddlers fall out of windows. Fetuses die because of congenital abnormalities. What does all of this have to do with murder? Or with the value of life before God???

I'm pro-life and I don't believe in god at all. Pretty much a strong atheist.

Your argument fails to hold water because there was no intent to end life -- it terminated on its own. Morally this is no different than if the child was born and died of illness.

an exciting twist for individuals that use the "soul created at concept" argument. that would not play a function in my objections to abortion, yet while it did, i think i could desire to argue that, while it comes to chimeras, God in simple terms takes the pointless soul on the time the merging happens...and while it comes to twins, he themes a sparkling soul while the split happens. ...or in step with risk the reason at the back of the incorporation of the chimeras AND the reason at the back of the split of twins is the variety of souls...the two entities that merge accomplish that with the intention to share the single soul they have been given and individuals that split accomplish that as to grant each and each soul a separate abode. in simple terms speculating by way of fact, as pronounced, the existence of a soul has no longer something to do with my objection to abortion.

IMO a miscarriage is not choosing to end the life, it's nature. all things are not perfect as we relinquished perfection with adam and eve. niscarriage is a horrible sad time especially when it's late int he trimester. IMO there is no comparrison to a woman who chooses to abort and a woman who miscarries.

please note - i'm not judging either - i have no place im judging - just stating my opinion.

Wel I am against murdering a middle aged man, but sometimes they die by natural causes, why wouldn't that happen to the unborn as well. Why should you be able to tell God who He can kill and who He can't. That really is not your decision.

there was abortion back in the day of jesus and it doesnt say specifically that abortion is killing or a murder. there is a few verses that show that killing an unborn child ISNT punishable or isnt as much as that of killing a born child. however, god himself killed children in the bible. and miscarriage is god killing unborn children...
